WHY I TRUST THE BIBLE - Part Ⅰ - Uniqueness

Biblical Wisdom

There are sure a lot of proclaimed "holy books" out there.

Out of the hundreds of writings considered by many to be "holy," I will show some of the reasons why the Bible, among "holy-books," is unique and without equal.

Biblical Wisdom

When considering the uniqueness of the Bible, a good place to start is the Bible's sixty-six books. They were written by more than 40 authors, over a time period of more than 1,500 years, yet, the Bible has an amazing harmony of message throughout.

And the message that is woven throughout every book is: the restoration of sinful mankind's relationship to the Holy God.

The Bible is full of prophecies about people and nations which have come true. No other book has withstood so many concerted efforts to burn and ban as the Bible has, yet, it still remains a best seller. The message of the Bible has totally changed peoples lives for the good. What many people don't realize is that the New Testament, contains eyewitness accounts of the ministry of Jesus Christ, and that most of the authors who recorded these events, died because, of up-holding what they believed was the truth.

The Bible's supernatural authorship

Even though the Bible was written by 40 authors over 1,600 years, it contains one over-arching theme: the re-establishment of relationship between mankind and their completely righteous Creator.

Peter the Apostle, explained that God's Spirit guided the Bible's continuity of theme. 2 Peter 1:20-21.

Something to Ponder:

What would the result be today, if you took 40 unrelated authors and had them write on one subject remotely from each other, with no particular marching orders? Do you think it would all fit together?

Unique Evidence

The Bible is well supported by early manuscript evidence, you can even take a look at the Dead Sea scroll of Isaiah dated to 100 B.C. (the latest carbon date,) on-line. On-going archaeological discoveries support the truthfulness of the Bible as a source of historical information. The places in the Bible were real places, and the events and actions of the people, including their unbelief, foibles, and mistakes, are all told. Uniquely, no attempt is made to whitewash the sins and failures of King David, Abraham and other "heroes of the faith." These are just a few of the things that separate the Bible from other "holy books."

One would expect that a book telling about God would be a unique book, and the Bible is certainly unique.

(Note: hover over any scripture on this page to read them)

One of the evidences that God exists, is because of His ability to tell us the future, before it happens.

Isaiah 46:8-10  and  Isaiah 48:3.

The main purpose of prophecy is to validate that the author, (God,) resides outside of time and knew these things prior to them occurring on our time-line.

God takes what He says in His Word, the Bible seriously King David wrote that God's Word is greater than His reputation. Psalms 138:2

God warns that there are people, false prophets, that say they are speaking for God, but are not. Jeremiah 14:13-14

Because of false prophets, there is a test which is quite simple; the so-called prophet must be 100% accurate every time. Deuteronomy 18:20-22

We are not to listen to, or be afraid of a false prophet.

Not just a few vague predictions, but hundreds of specific prophesies about people, nations and events.

Brian Mistele, in his blog entry titled: The Bible's Most Amazing Prophecies, well stated the uniqueness of prophecy in the Bible. "Prophecy is what makes the Bible unique among other religious works such as the writings of Muhammad, Buddha, Confucius or the Book of Mormon. Indeed, thousands of years ago, the God of the Bible made a bold challenge to all other religions and prophets to use prophecy as the test by which to measure all other religions (Isaiah 41:22-23). So far, there has been no credible response to God's challenge for a religion to put its reputation on the line by accurately predicting the future."

Read what the prophet Isaiah wrote in the 8th century BC. in Isaiah 52:13-15 and Isaiah 53:1-12, and then Psalms 22, written in about 1,000 BC. Then ask yourself, who is Isaiah and the writer of Psalms talking about? Hint, read the Gospel of John.

Please bear in mind that the scriptures from the Old Testament, were made several hundreds of years before they were fulfilled. For example, the prophet Isaiah wrote in the 8th Century BC., and David, the writer of Psalms lived during the 9th Century BC.

There are hundreds of prophesies in the Bible about Jesus - here are just some of them and this is something that you can verify yourself. Just look at the scripture on the left that made the prediction then, look at the fulfillment of the prediction on the right.

I hope dear reader that you are really understanding and grasping the significance of these listed prophecies. These prophecies, are really what sets the Bible apart from all the other "holy" books.

Jesus had prophecies telling about Him and what He would accomplish, hundreds of years before He was born. Mohammed, Buddha and Joseph Smith, and all the other so called "holy" men, did not.

Is the Bible your guide for life?
If so, why do you trust it?

pat Pat - Health Care Professional.

"The Bible is my guide for life!

I trust the Bible because of the proven history and statements it gives to us written within its pages. Jesus states in the Bible, The words that I speak are Spirit and Life, "The Word of God is a "living" book passed down to us by God through his prophets in time past who held truth sacred in their writings (Luke 1:69-72). The Bible shows man's moral decay, man's need for Jesus as Savior, and man's need for God's Word and His love throughout a life time. When you begin your journey to discover the Bible's truth, you will discover life, health, peace and love."
Keith Keith - Retired Firefighter.

"Yes! The Bible is my guide for life and so far,
it has proved its value to me as a foundation for my life. The Bible is not like any other book on earth. 66 books written by 40 authors over a time span of hundreds of years, yet, there is one overall subject, "the restoring of sinful mankind to a perfect and Holy Creator." The Bible tells both the good and the bad about mankind's attitudes and actions. It is full of wisdom for those who take the time to study it."

Kathy Kathy - "Yes! I trust the Bible because it is God’s absolute truth to mankind. In Matthew 8:32, Jesus said, "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." God offers His truth through the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. God cannot lie due to his absolute holy nature. Therefore, I can trust Him to set me on the right path for my life.

The Bible is filled with examples of, not only blessed lives lived the Godly way, but lives lived without the benefit of God’s wisdom guiding them (due to their own choice). The book of Proverbs is an excellent source of Godly advice and can be trusted to produce God’s wisdom if taken to heart and obeyed. I know that God loves me and wants the best for me. In Jeremiah 29:11, God says, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you an expected end." I trust Him because He is truth. His plans for me are good, and my future is secure because he is trustworthy and faithful."
Jimmy Jimmy - The B.I.B.L.E: Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.

I trusted in myself and it didn’t get me anything but into a mess. The Bible is Jesus valentine card of gift to us and tells of His love for us and how we can live an abundant, fulfilling life, it is indeed my guide. 2 Timothy, 3:16-17 says: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness that the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

In the Bible, every facet of human nature is revealed one way or another, from Genesis to Revelation using various literary techniques like in poems, allegories, parables, sayings and literal stories, and even songs. The broad story is that mankind has a lot of “issues” and quite depraved when compared to the completely righteous God. The Bible also says we are eternal beings, that our physical bodies will decay and rot away, but, our souls and our spirits will live forever, unfortunately, our default destination is Hell. Where will you live for eternity? The choice is entirely yours and the right path is found within the pages of the Bible. Romans 10:9 says: "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."
Donald Donald - Retired University Horticulturist.

"I must begin by saying that, I love my Bible.
It is a great source of comfort to me to know that God loves me. I turn to the Bible for truth. It is all so reassuring in these troubled times to know that God is in control. I find it interesting as to how the earth was formed; how mankind was formed on the sixth day and the subsequent fall. Throughout the pages, God's love for his creation is portrayed. How His love for Israel has spared the people and nation. All these things matter to me. Jesus is coming again--one of the central themes of the Written Word.

God is love. He loves the little children, for whom I am concerned. The Bible tells me of future events and those prophecies are so exciting. The Bible is a path to gracious living. It is my conviction that without a knowledge of what is past, and what is yet to come, it is impossible to make intelligent decisions about life. I love the Bible because it is sort of like having God in my very presence.

Why do I trust the Bible? I have no option other than to believe that the Word is Spiritually breathed; I trust in the spilt blood of Christ to wash me white as snow; I trust in the promise of eternal bliss. I look out upon the world and see tiny Israel, (God's Chosen, still standing, surrounded by those many nations determined to destroy her. I read the Old Testament and see how history was written long before actual events occurred. There is only positive evidence of the fidelity of the Word. Countless attempts have been made to discredit the Good News, to no avail. The Bible speaks for itself. It has survived through ages past. To disbelieve is almost tantamount to the unforgivable sin. God is Truth. If it were not so, I would not be placing my future in His hands."Click here to read my testimony.
Jenn Jenn - "How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than the honey to my mouth" Psalm 119:103.

Is the Bible my guide for life? Its sounds like a weird question to most. Is this book my guide? It’s a book. What is in the contents of this book that any sane or insane person would even think to put all their trust in it to guide them through life? First, one would have to open it to see why in the world people would even say the Bible is their guide to life. Once opened, one would have to read the contents of this seemingly great book that people are putting ALL their trust in to see; why? What are the claims? What are the instructions? What are the guarantees? After researching one would have to come to a conclusion.

First, the Bible claims to be given by inspiration of God; ALL scripture is God breathed. Second, the Bible claims to have foreknowledge of future events. Prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. Third, the Bible claims to have the answer to the meaning of life; for God created all things, and by His will they exist and were created. Fourth, the Bible claims that there is a real problem with mankind. We are all going to die, therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man and death entered through sin, death came to all people, because all have sinned. Fifth, the Bible claims to have a cure for this problem, God made Him, (Jesus) who had no sin, to become sin for us, so that in Him, we might become the righteousness of God. That is a heavy claim. Who is this HIM who had no sin? And why would HE become sin to make someone righteous? Sixth, the Bible claims that it will never pass away, or change, Heaven and earth will pass away, but His words will by no means pass away. Seventh, this book claims to give the gift of eternal life in a place where there will be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying, there shall be no more pain. A glorious place whose Builder and Maker is the Lord.

I can go on and on about the claims this book makes (there are so many claims). And the promises and guarantees are a separate talk on their own. So much richness, so true, so relevant for today, so encouraging, so wise, so vast are the contents of this book, I just can’t say enough.

So, all this brings us back to the question. Is the Bible the guide for my life and do I trust it? The answer is, after I opened it, read it, researched it, and tried it. My conclusion is that this in fact is a Holy Book written through man, by God, to mankind. It is trustworthy, a solid foundation, dependable, reliable and there is great reward for those who take heed according to this God breathed Word. Yes. Yes, I would be a fool not to put my hope and trust in the B-I-B-L-E: Basic Instruction Before Leaving Earth book, and I do trust it because it is proven 100% to be the truth.

Psalms 19:7-11 "The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. The commands of the Lord are radiant, giving light to the eyes. The fear of the Lord is pure, enduring forever. The decrees of the Lord are firm, and all of them are righteous. They are more precious than gold, then much pure gold; they are sweeter then honey, then honey from the honeycomb. By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward."

God Bless, Jenn

Perhaps you are thinking?

Oh, I think that all these "supposed prophecies" were written after Jesus was long gone.

Nice try, but in the late 2nd century B.C. The Hebrew scriptures which contained the prophecies were translated from Hebrew to Greek called the Septuagint.

Also, the Dead Sea Scrolls which have been dated to the 2nd century B.C (at the earliest) contain the prophecies about Jesus.

a few specific prophecies about the Jews

Prophecies in the Bible are not just about the Messiah, there are specific prophecies about people and nations that are fulfilled by the historical records.
